About

Estee Liu Chaimson, also known as Aster Liu, is a nonbinary illustrator and animator who draws animals, monsters, and supernatural themes.

As a Chinese adoptee with a Jewish upbringing, Aster often feels like a ghost floating between worlds. Growing up they have questioned whether they were too Chinese or not Chinese enough due to internal and external experiences, leaving them stuck in-between.

However, their passion for art has always acted as a grounding force. They started pursuing it seriously when they were 8 years old and attended several art schools to foster their creative growth. From age 12 to 18 they studied oil painting, a medium that eventually developed the foundations that inform their current work.

By using non-human forms as vessels, Aster is at their freest to explore their identity, mental health, and spirituality.

When not making art, Aster is usually practicing the piano, studying Mandarin, listening to spooky podcasts, or playing video games.
